This 1972 Camaro Z/28 underwent a complete, nut-and-bolt, frame-off restoration in 2016 in South Carolina. The engine and transmission were rebuilt in August 2020, with full supporting receipts, and have accumulated less than 1,000 miles since. The car is finished in Sequoia Green with factory-correct black stripes, now approximately nine years old.
Purchased in 2020 and transported to Southern California, the current owner removed the engine and had it stroked and bored, replacing all internal components except the crankshaft, which was reground.
Only 2,575 Z/28 models were produced in 1972, making it a highly sought-after and rare vehicle. Production that year was significantly impacted by labor shortages at the Norwood plant, and over 1,000 partially completed cars were reportedly scrapped because they did not meet 1973 federal requirements. As a result, the 1972 Camaro Z/28 is considered one of the rarest examples of the era.
At the time of the rebuild, the odometer read 27,214 miles, and it currently shows approximately 28,000 miles. The rebuilt engine has less than 1,000 miles of use. The vehicle includes complete historical documentation and receipts dating back to 2015, along with 60 photos documenting the restoration process.
The interior features cloth bucket seats in excellent condition, showing no visible wear. Overall, the interior presents very well with no noted issues. The body is exceptionally straight, with even panel gaps across the hood, trunk, and doors, all of which open and close properly. Emblems, chrome trim, and moldings are all in very good condition.
This Z/28 delivers strong performance and is a dependable, enjoyable car to drive. It features ceramic-coated headers connected to the original crossover muffler, producing the unmistakable Z/28 exhaust tone, complemented by a well-matched camshaft and performance components.
Disclosures: The Sequoia Green paint shows some imperfections, chips, and touch-ups. A new headliner is included with the car.
